Danish iGaming Vertical Demonstrates Unprecedented Growth Rates

Rise of Digital Casinos in Denmark

The development of the iGaming sector has led to an overall annual growth rate of 11.6% in national market revenue. In April, the total gross earnings reached DKK 665 million, roughly $103 million. Although the land-based niche experienced a minor decline, the overall growth trend remains steady.

The most significant increase in the local gambling sector’s profitability occurred in December 2024, when the GGR indicator hit DKK 347 million.

Earnings were distributed as follows:

Slight Increase in Sportsbook Revenue

The profit of Denmark's betting vertical grew by 6.1% compared to the previous year.

This segment's total income was distributed as follows:

• 70.8% — portable gadgets;
• 15% — desktop devices;
• 14.2% — physical points of sale.

The peak activity rates throughout the month were noticed on weekends and Tuesdays.

Current State of the Offline Casino Segment

The vertical’s revenue fell by 3.6% YoY to DKK 93 million. Most of the profit originated from land-based gaming venues, making up 79.7% of the total machine-based GGR. The rest, 20.3%, was generated from terminals located in restaurants. Tuesdays were also the peak days at the stationary points of sale.

The gross revenue of ground casinos for the month totalled DKK 31 million, marking the highest amount since December. This figure is similar to the volume recorded last year. Additionally, bingo games brought in DKK 3 million.

Local User Protection Efforts

According to a report from the authority, by the end of April, over 60,000 individuals had registered for Denmark’s self-exclusion programme, ROFUS. Of these, 78.3% were men and 21.7% women. More than 64% of clients opted for permanent elimination. During the month, the StopSpillet hotline received 50 calls concerning ludomania issues.

Along with safeguarding vulnerable groups, the Danish regulatory body is also enhancing its oversight of illegal gambling services. To this end, the authority has signed several strategic agreements with prominent corporations.
