New Jersey’s iGaming Revenues Surpass the Profits of Ground Venues in April

New Jersey’s iGaming Revenues Surpass the Profits of Ground Venues in April

28/05/2025
New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has published a monthly financial report detailing the performance of the state’s regulated gambling sector for April 2025. According to the latest figures, total revenue climbed to $536 million, reflecting a 5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Key Facts and Figures Outlined in the Report

New Jersey gambling revenues in April 2025

Online gambling and sportsbooks accounted for over half of New Jersey’s total revenue, emphasising an ongoing shift toward web platforms. Industry analysts suggest that the steady expansion of the digital sector could further negatively impact the profitability of Atlantic City’s brick-and-mortar venues, potentially reshaping the local gambling landscape.

Current State of the Online Entertainment Sector

The sphere’s total turnover rose by more than 25% year-on-year, surpassing $235 million and marking the 2nd-highest monthly figure ever recorded in the state.

Among the top-performing niche gambling brands are:

  • FanDuel — 52.8 million (35% up);
  • DraftKings — 47 million (19.5% up);
  • BetMGM — 29.6 million (28% up).

Offline Vertical’s Performance

New Jersey’s 9 land-based casinos generated $211 million in revenue during the reporting period, reflecting a 2.7% decline compared to the same month last year. This marks the 3rd instance in 2025 where iGaming earnings have outpaced the profits of brick-and-mortar gambling facilities, underscoring the continued shift toward digital portals.

Among Atlantic City’s major land-based establishments are:

  • Borgata, with a monthly income of $58.5 million (up 0.3% YoY);
  • Hard Rock, with revenue amounting to $41.5 million (up 1%);
  • Ocean Casino, reporting profits of $30.6 million (up 6%).

Other local operators experienced significant declines in earnings during the period. Notably, Bally’s saw its turnover drop by 22% to $10.2 million. April’s results further reinforce concerns regarding the downward trajectory of Atlantic City’s offline entertainment venues. The current dynamics only underscore the pressing need for investment to strengthen the land-based sector and enhance its resilience in the rapidly changing market.

Sportsbooks’ Financial Results

The betting segment was assessed at $90.5 million, reflecting a nearly 15% decline compared to the previous year. Despite the overall revenue drop, local niche operators handled over $994 million in wagers throughout April, indicating the vertical's sustained appeal.

Since the beginning of 2025, the sector has already accumulated $4.2 billion in total betting volume, reinforcing its position in the broader gambling arena.

New Jersey’s Market: Key Trends

Despite intensifying competition from New York, New Jersey’s entertainment sphere continues to experience strong and dynamic growth.

With 3 forthcoming full-scale casino launches in the neighbouring state, New Jersey’s authorities have presented a new legislative proposal. The bill outlines the necessity of a public referendum to assess the possibility of expanding land-based casino operations beyond Atlantic City's current boundaries.

Proponents of the initiative have already put forward several development proposals, aiming to establish entertainment complexes at Monmouth Park in Oceanport and Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford.

These locations are seen as strategic expansion points, potentially enhancing the state’s gambling infrastructure beyond its traditional base.
