Portugal’s SRIJ Rolls Out a Centralised Self-Exclusion Platform

Portugal’s SRIJ Rolls Out a Centralised Self-Exclusion Platform

28/04/2026
On April 8th, 2026, Portugal’s regulatory body, Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), officially presented a centralised self-exclusion platform for iGaming enthusiasts.

Centralised self-exclusion service in Portugal: objectives

The service provides a single access point for individuals who wish to restrict their participation in online gambling, streamlining the process and reinforcing responsible gaming measures across the market.

System’s Functionality and Objectives

The digital platform was designed to strengthen player protection by offering an accessible, convenient instrument. Applications can be submitted both by gamblers experiencing signs of ludomania and by 3rd-party representatives acting on behalf of such individuals.

The system allows restricting access to all certified web casinos and sportsbooks in Portugal. Users may also request to end their self-exclusion through this resource.

Previously, the country’s entertainment sector relied on fragmented mechanisms to address issues of gambling addiction. The new centralised registry consolidates the most effective measures into a unified infrastructure.

The website’s interface was designed to be:

  • straightforward — only essential functions, with no superfluous elements;
  • user-friendly — options to switch between light and dark modes, adjust the font size, and set contrast;
  • mobile-adapted — reflecting the steady increase in online traffic from portable devices.

The rollout of the new service coincides with the ongoing expansion of Portugal’s iGaming verticals, as shown by financial data. SRIJ analytics indicate that GGR in Q3 2025 hit €297.1 million, marking the 2nd-highest quarterly figure in the market’s history. Concurrently, land-based casino revenue declined 4.6% YoY.

Self-Exclusion Practices Worldwide

Centralised protection instruments for at-risk individuals are increasingly becoming the benchmark in regulated markets and are being progressively adopted across diverse jurisdictions. The active development of such portals underscores the authorities’ heightened commitment to responsible gambling and transparency.

Here are several examples:

  1. Brazil. The national system was rolled out at the end of 2025. Previously, no unified registry existed. The recent initiative allows users to restrict their access to all certified gambling resources at the same time.
  2. Great Britain. The UK’s Gamstop platform remains a global reference point. According to the service’s experts, registrations among individuals aged 16–24 rose by 40% in the 2nd half of 2025. The portal offers both a 1-time activation and auto-renewal, up to permanent exclusion.
  3. Germany. The government-operated OASIS, launched in August 2021, has seen over 350,000 applications, mainly from players themselves, with only 3% from 3rd parties.
